Testing, testing…
Ok, guys, this is a weird post, I know and I apologise for it. Funny questions:
I gave this test page on cheap flights an anchor text link from this page (footer 2 weeks ago and body text just now) and a few other from various pages (6-7, different root domains, of course). You’re probably wondering what I am doing, and I’ll say that search engines appear to be doing more to recognize location on the page as an element of link consideration – employing links to pages in the body content, rather than in permanent navigation may potentially provide some benefit, so I’m testing. The annoying thing is that Google only counts the first link to a page that they see in the HTML!!
Things are getting any easier, as recent patent applications suggest that Google is strongly discounting links placed in the footer, and, to a lesser degree, in the sidebar(s) of pages. So if you want to add a link in permanent navigation (I doubt you will though), it may pay to use the top navigation (above the content).
